Black stone trilobite fossil.  Now extinct, trilobites lived during the Cambrian period, were one of the earliest forms of arthropods, and the first group of animals in the animal kingdom to develop complex eyes. 

This small specimen exhibits a great view of the thorax segments, and pleural spines.  

The fossil is 1.25" long, the entire piece is approimately 2".
